As a user experience advocate and search architect, the most common questions that seem to bubble up to the top seem to be consistent across the board. In my blog post, I wanted to capture them so it can serve as a reference to anyone or any team looking to setup or improve search on their website or intranet.
.) Can we crawl the website or intranet based on a starting root url(s) to build a search index?
.) Can we see what the users are searching for?
.) Can we setup a schedule for periodic crawling (daily, weekly, monthly)?
.) Does it support auto-complete or auto-suggest?
.) Does it provides spelling suggestions?
.) Can we disallow certain urls/files or parts of the page (navigation, footer etc.) from search?
.) Can we promote or highlight links to the top of the results page based on keywords?
.) Can we federate search results from sub-domains or micro-sites or externally hosted sites?
.) Does it support synonyms based search?
.) How easy is it to integrate with my website look and feel?
The most basic questions serve as a key checklist for anyone looking to implement or improve their site search experience. SearchBlox as a product is built to answer these questions so it is fast to install and easy to manage for the above scenarios. The search user experience is the central facet of the SearchBlox experience. Contact us to learn more about how you can take your search experience to the next level!
